The European Parliament will soon vote on the adoption of the Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation (MiCA). The regulation will establish harmonized rules for cryptoassets at the EU level, thereby providing legal certainty for cryptoassets not covered by current EU legislation.
The regulation defines and covers three types of crypto-assets, namely asset-based tokens (ART), electronic money tokens (EMT) and other crypto-assets not covered by current EU legislation. The legislation will regulate the issuance and trading of crypto-assets as well as the management of underlying assets, where applicable, with additional regulatory rules.
