What is PCI DSS

Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a payment card industry data security standard established by such international payment systems, as Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB and Discover.

The standard consists of 12 detailed requirements for ensuring the security of data on payment card holders that is being transmitted, stored and processed within the information infrastructures of organizations.

Fines

For merchants processing high-volume card transactions, which have over 6 million card transactions per year, known as Tier 1 Merchants, the fine amounts $25,000 per month. For small merchants, of the 2nd level – 1-6 million card transactions per year. For tier 3 merchants, 20,000 – 1 million card transactions per year, the fine is set in the amount of $5,000 per month.
